Coming out to play... again...

Life is settling down once again after a hectic few weeks. School back in session? Check. Arrival of new son, Liam? Check. Establishment of regular sleep cycles? Still a work in progress.

I should say here how much I love my family. I'm so proud of my wife, Katey, and for all the things she does to provide a loving and caring home for our boys. Most days I come home from work feeling mentally exhausted, thinking that the only I want to do for the rest of the day is collapse on the couch and/or engage in a variety of digital distractions because they require little thought. However, seeing the excitement of my two oldest boys and hearing about their adventures is hard to ignore and I try to make sure that I am available in the same way that Katey is. I love you, sweetie.

We're all looking forward to seeing a good portion of the family over the weekend. Liam will be blessed in church this upcoming Sunday and having the Thanksgiving holiday seemed like a good chance to try and get as many of the Thompson and Redd clans together as possible. I'm currently looking for a good recipe for beef on a bun... I was immensely pleased to hear that many use pop. Hello, Dr. Pepper-Beef-on-a-bun. I'm sure we'll be good friends.

Frequent posting should occur from now on. There has been no shortage of material, just the drive to organize the many thoughts that occupy my mind on any given day. I'm hoping my mom will be impressed.

Random bits of EPIC!

I've been able to pick up a few days worth of extra work in my otherwise lazy summer. That being said, I still find time to rummage through the bottomless pit that is the internet to dig up the odd little gem.

My wife and I love these ads! I can at least brag to her that I've been her 'Old Spice' man for years... and she didn't even know it!

If something a bit more silly is up your alley, I recommend this as well.

Who needs puppies?..

Come on... I'm sure there are many a Star Wars nerd who just can't help but smile.

Nerd-Journal #1

My wife often tells me that she had no idea how much of a nerd I was until after she accepted my proposal. Our isolated situation in northern Alberta has, to her chagrin, added somewhat to my passion for the hobby. Moderation in all things, I suppose...

That being said, I am super excited about this little piece of hardware. It was only a few months ago that Nintendo announced a handheld that would provide three-dimensional viewing, but WITHOUT the need for glasses of any kind. It was recently unveiled a few weeks ago to nearly universal praise and I couldn't be happier.

I've been a sucker for new tech for a long time. I suppose its for the best that my limited financial means have prevented me from paying many thousands of dollars for the newest in cutting-edge entertainment. The 3DS represents a fairly modest opportunity to enjoy some new tech without having to spend a few months salary on a new TV and the accompanying headgear.

I look forward to the arrival of the 3DS sometime next early next year.

A Fresh Start

Its been several long months but I've realized just how much I miss blogging. That being said, this is going to be an attempt to bring together a variety of things that I am interested in instead of just focusing on one key area.

The months ahead will cover politics, my ramblings on education and teaching in general, discussion about media that has piqued my geekish interest, and experiences with my growing family.

For anyone who wants to come along, they are more than welcome to join in the conversation.
